| Reverse description | Zeus enthroned to the left, his lower body draped in a himation, holding a patera in his extended right hand and resting his left hand upon a tall sceptre. The composition follows the canonical seated Zeus type widely employed on civic bronzes of Roman Ionia, evoking the great cult statue tradition associated with the sanctuary at Smyrna. The magistrate's name legend ϹΤΡΑ ΚΛΑΥ ΧΑΡΜΟΥ ΖΜΥΡ — identifying the strategos Claudius Charmos of Smyrna — is distributed around the field. The figure is rendered with careful attention to drapery folds and the divine authority of the Olympian deity. |
