Tium was a minor Bithynian coastal city whose civic coinage under Gordian III represents one of the last gasps of autonomous Greek-style bronze production in the region before Roman administrative pressure gradually extinguished local mint activity across Bithynia. The city's issues are sparsely documented, and the reference corpus remains incomplete — VII.2 being among the few systematic attempts to catalog the type.
Die matches across surviving specimens suggest extremely limited production runs, which accounts for the relative difficulty in locating examples outside institutional collections.
