Magnesia ad Maeandrum's civic bronze issues under Gordian III were produced under local magistrates whose names appear in the coin legends — here, Photeinos, whose title indicates he served as the presiding official responsible for authorizing the strike. This practice of eponymous magistrate attribution was standard across the Conventus of Miletus, and identifying the same magistrate across multiple types is one of the few tools available for sequencing these otherwise loosely dated provincial issues.
Gordian III's reign saw a marked expansion in provincial bronze output across Asia Minor, partly filling gaps left by increasingly erratic central imperial coinage during the third-century military crises.
