| Beschrijving keerzijde | Isis Pharia depicted standing and advancing to the right, her figure clad in a long, flowing chiton with billowing drapery. She extends both hands forward to grasp a large, billowing sail, a hallmark of her role as patroness of seafarers. Immediately behind her to the left stands the multi-tiered Pharos lighthouse of Alexandria, rendered schematically as a tall tapering structure. The composition celebrates the Homonoia — civic concord — between the cities of Ephesus and Alexandria, as proclaimed in the surrounding Greek legend. The reverse type is a well-known homonoia issue linking the two great harbor cities of the Eastern Mediterranean. |
