Antioch ad Maeandrum was a small Carian city whose civic coinage output was modest even by regional standards, and issues under Gordian III represent some of the final bronze struck there before the city's mint activity effectively ceased. The reference VII.1#609.1 places this within the Sylloge Nummorum Graecorum framework for the Conventus of Alabanda, a judicial district whose constituent cities minted with varying regularity under the Severans and their successors.
Gordian III's reign coincided with renewed pressure on Asia Minor's provincial economies from Persian campaigning in the east, which may partly explain the abbreviated civic minting of this period.
