Obverse description Laureate, draped and cuirassed bust of Emperor Gordian III facing right, rendered three-quarter view from the rear, displaying the paludamentum and segmented cuirass in typical provincial Roman style. The imperial effigy occupies the central field, with the Greek legend disposed around the periphery in a circular arrangement. The die work reflects the provincial workshop tradition of the Maeander valley, with characteristically bold but somewhat coarse engraving. Surface patination is heavy dark green-black, consistent with long burial, partially obscuring fine detail of the portrait.
