| Obverse description | Radiate, draped and cuirassed bust of Emperor Gordian III facing right, depicted from the rear in the characteristic three-quarter back view. The radiate crown is rendered with prominent spikes, and the imperial paludamentum is visible over the cuirass. The encircling Greek legend reads ΑΥΤΟΚ Κ Μ ΑΝΤ ΓΟΡΔΙΑΝΟϹ ϹΕΒ, identifying the emperor by his full titulature. The coin's broad flan and bold relief reflect the provincial hammered die work typical of Mesopotamian colonial mints under the Severan and Gordian dynasties. |
