| Reverse description | Tetrastyle temple depicted in elevation, its four columns framing a cult statue of Sarapis standing left, right arm raised in a gesture of salutation and left hand holding a long sceptre. A globe is prominently placed upon the temple pediment, symbolising divine cosmic authority. | Additional information |
Odessos, the Black Sea port city on Moesia Inferior's eastern coast, retained the right to strike civic bronze under Gordian III as part of the broader tradition of provincial coinage that Rome tolerated — and occasionally encouraged — to relieve pressure on the central mint system. The Ε in the reverse field denotes a denomination mark within the local civic series, a feature that distinguishes Odessos issues from many neighboring Moesian mints and has made systematic denomination studies possible for this city's output.
