Within the intercolumniation stands Apollo facing front, head turned to the left, extending a laurel branch over a lighted altar placed before him. The architectural rendering is consistent with the civic temple coinage of Calchedon, celebrating a local cult of Apollo. The city ethnic legend is inscribed in the field around the temple. |
