The ethnic legend ΒΙΘΥΝΙΕΩΝ ΑΔΡΙΑΝΩΝ, asserting the Hadrianic identity of the polis, was not mere civic boilerplate but an active claim to imperial favor, one the city continued pressing well into the third century.
