At the prow, the syncretic deity Sarapis stands facing right, clad in his characteristic attire, raising his right hand in a gesture of benediction while holding a long sceptre in his left. Facing him, Emperor Caracalla is seated to the left, holding a patera and sceptre, emphasizing the emperor's divine association. A vexillum (military standard) is visible at the stern and an aquila (legionary eagle standard) adorns the prow, reinforcing the martial and imperial iconography of this provincial issue. The reverse legend ΝΙΚΑΙΕΩΝ appears in the field, identifying the issuing city of Nicaea in Bithynia. |
