Additional information

Ancyra in Galatia — modern Ankara — was one of the most administratively significant cities in Asia Minor, serving as the provincial capital and a key node in Roman road networks heading east. Provincial bronze coinage from Ancyra naming a local archon is useful precisely because it anchors the issue to a specific magistrate's tenure, even when the broader reign span runs to over two decades. The archon Lupus named in the obverse legend is otherwise poorly documented, which is typical of mid-tier civic officials whose names survive only on the bronze they authorized.
