| Reverse description | A large, elaborately decorated square altar dominates the central field, surmounted by a smaller decorated altar with a distinctive semicircular or domed cover, the whole ensemble flanked on either side by what appear to be olive trees with spreading branches. The ethnic legend of the Myndian civic community is inscribed in the field or along the periphery. The altar type reflects the prominent role of civic cult and sacred architecture in the coinage of Carian cities under the Antonine emperors. |
