| Obverse description | Radiate, draped, and cuirassed bust of Emperor Aemilian facing right, portrayed in three-quarter rear view, with the radiate crown rendered in bold relief. The paludamentum is visible over the left shoulder, and the cuirass is indicated beneath. The encircling Greek legend runs along the periphery of the flan, partially obscured by wear and the irregular edge characteristic of provincial bronze coinage of this period. |

Amisus held the status of a free city — eleuthera — under Roman provincial administration, a privilege dating to Pompey's reorganization of Pontus in 65 BC and jealously maintained for centuries. The civic year date ΕϹΠΔ (year 285) in the Pontic era confirms the 253 AD attribution, placing this coin squarely in the reign of Aemilian, whose entire rule lasted roughly three months before his own troops killed him near Spoleto.
Coins struck in Aemilian's name by provincial mints are genuinely scarce — his reign was too brief for extensive civic issue cycles to complete.
