Reverse description Half-nude figure of Homer, the legendary epic poet venerated as a hero at Colophon, seated to the right upon a throne or rock. He holds an open scroll in both hands, a compositional motif underscoring his identity as author of the Iliad and Odyssey. The encircling legend in Greek identifies the issuing civic magistrate and the city. The rendering is consistent with the provincial bronze coinage of Ionian cities under the Decian dynasty.
