Obverse description Bare head of the deified Augustus facing left, rendered in the provincial style typical of Cretan civic coinage of the Tiberian period. The portrait is modelled in relatively low relief with a broad, rounded skull and simplified facial features. A Latin circular legend surrounds the effigy, naming the duovir Maximus and identifying the subject as the divine Augustus.
