Obverse description Confronted busts of Severus Alexander, laureate, draped, and cuirassed, facing right as seen from behind, and Julia Mamaea, diademed and draped, facing left; the two effigies are rendered in facing opposition, a composition characteristic of Edessan colonial coinage. The encircling legend names both the emperor and his mother in Greek characters distributed across the upper and lower fields.
