Ancyra in Lydia — not to be confused with the Galatian capital — struck civic bronze under local magistrates whose names appear prominently on the coinage as a mark of municipal pride and administrative accountability. Apollophanes, named here as the issuing authority, is otherwise unattested in surviving literary sources. The magistrate title and ethnic together functioned as the city's guarantee of the issue, a practice that gave Lydian civic bronzes their documentary value alongside their monetary one.
