Miletopolis was a small Mysian city whose civic coinage depended entirely on the goodwill of Roman provincial administration. The magistrate name preserved in the legend — Soterichos — corresponds to a strategos serving during the years Septimius Severus was consolidating power after defeating his last rival, Clodius Albinus, at the Battle of Lugdunum in 197. Provincial bronzes of this city are scarce in all periods; issues attributable to named magistrates narrow the field considerably.
