The hero rests his right hand on his hip in a posture of ease, while his left arm bears the Nemean lion skin draped over it; his left hand rests upon his club, which is set upright on a rock at the lower right. The composition emphasises Heracles as a civic founder figure, consistent with the honorific reverse legend. The design is rendered in the provincial Greek style characteristic of Bithynian civic coinage of the Antonine era. |
