Corinth's colonial coinage under Marcus Aurelius occupied a peculiar administrative position — the city held Roman colonial status since Julius Caesar's refoundation in 44 BC, which meant its bronze issues carried Latin legends long after most eastern provincial mints had settled into Greek. The abbreviation C L I COR in the reference expands to Colonia Laus Iulia Corinthiensis, the formal colonial title Caesar bestowed, still in active use two centuries later.
