Obverse description Youthful cuirassed and paludamentum-draped bust of Commodus, laureate, facing right and viewed from behind. The portrait is rendered in the provincial Greek style characteristic of Ionian civic coinage of the Antonine period. The legend encircles the bust in Greek characters. The youthful features identify this as an early representation of Commodus, consistent with his co-regency under Marcus Aurelius during 177–180 AD.
