| Reverse description | Nude Poseidon standing facing left, his right foot raised and resting upon a rocky outcrop, holding a dolphin downward in his extended right hand, while his left arm is draped and partially enveloped in a chlamys. The composition is a classicizing rendering of the sea-god appropriate to the maritime character of Cyzicus, a city renowned for its Poseidon cult and neokorate status. The circular Greek legend occupying the field around the figure proclaims the city's honorific title as neokoros. The type follows established provincial bronze iconography of the Antonine period. |
