Macrinus ruled for just fourteen months — the first emperor who had never served as a senator before his accession — before being overthrown by the supporters of the young Elagabalus in June 218. Provincial mints like Nicaea continued striking bronze throughout his short reign, and the city's issues under Macrinus are notably scarcer than those of his predecessor Caracalla, simply because the window was so narrow.
