His right arm is raised and poised to hurl a spear downward at a fallen enemy prostrate beneath the horse's hooves, a composition evoking imperial virtus and martial dominance. The equestrian scene is rendered in the vigorous, if somewhat provincial, style characteristic of Bithynian civic bronzes of the early third century. The reverse legend ΝΙΚΑΙΕΩΝ appears in the field, identifying the issuing city of Nicaea. The overall composition follows a well-established type associating the emperor with military prowess.
