Obverse description Laureate, draped, and cuirassed bust of Emperor Gordian III facing right, depicted from the front in the typical provincial three-quarter perspective. The effigy shows the emperor in military attire, with paludamentum fastened at the shoulder. The encircling Greek legend runs around the periphery of the flan, partially visible despite significant surface wear and patination.

Reverse description The emperor on horseback galloping vigorously to the right, raising a spear in his right hand in a martial pose, the horse depicted with forelegs raised in a dynamic prancing attitude. The composition fills the central field and conveys imperial military authority in the tradition of Roman provincial coinage. The encircling Greek legend identifying the city of Nicomedia and its twice-neocorate status runs around the periphery, partially legible through the heavy green and brown patination.
