Docimeum sat at the heart of one of the ancient world's most important marble-quarrying districts — the Synnada conventus in Phrygia supplied the prized *marmor Phrygium*, a purple-veined white stone favored by Roman emperors for palace construction. The civic pride embedded in that industry almost certainly underpinned the city's active bronze coinage under Gordian III, one of the more prolific reigns for provincial output across Asia Minor.

The ΜΑΚΕΔΟΝΩΝ ethnic in the legend reflects a founding tradition — Docimeum claimed Macedonian settler heritage, a distinction the city advertised consistently on its coinage throughout the third century.
