Obverse description Draped bust of Empress Tranquillina facing right, her hair elaborately coiffed and secured with a diadem, rendered in the provincial Greek style typical of the Samian mint under Gordian III. The effigy is set within a beaded border, with the Greek imperial titulature legend running around the periphery of the flan. The portrait exhibits the characteristic softness of Ionian provincial die-cutting, with visible folds of the draped garment at the shoulder and chest.
