She wears a turreted crown and long chiton with himation, and holds a ship's rudder in her right hand and a cornucopia in her left, emblematic of the city's prosperity and good fortune. The ethnic legend ΑΚΚΙΛΑΕΩΝ is disposed around the figure in the field, identifying the issuing community of Accilaeum. The rendering is characteristic of the simplified provincial die-cutting of interior Phrygia in the Severan and Gordian periods. |

Accilaeum was a minor Phrygian civic center whose coinage output was modest even by provincial standards, concentrated almost entirely in the reigns of Gordian III and his immediate predecessors. The city's coins are catalogued under the Conventus of Apamea, the administrative district through which Rome organized judicial and fiscal affairs across much of interior Phrygia. Very few of these civic bronzes circulated far from their point of origin — regional hoards confirm largely local distribution.
The Phrygiens reference places this type among a tightly grouped run of dies, VII.1#674 being among the more frequently cited varieties from this mint.
