| Beschrijving voorzijde | Confronted busts of the Emperor Gordian III and the god Sarapis face one another at center: Gordian III appears at right, his effigy laureate, draped, and cuirassed, seen from the rear, while Sarapis faces left, draped, wearing his characteristic modius headdress, with a cornucopia placed behind his shoulder. The surrounding Greek legend names the emperor. The composition is typical of the dynastic and divine pairing iconography found on provincial bronzes of Moesia Inferior during the Gordian period. |
