Obverse description Radiate, draped, and cuirassed bust of Emperor Gordian III facing right, seen from the rear, the radiate crown rendered with pointed rays above the imperial effigy. The drapery and cuirass are visible at the truncation, conveying military authority. The circular Greek legend runs around the periphery of the flan, partially visible due to die shift and surface wear. The portrait is executed in the provincial Roman style characteristic of Mesopotamian civic coinage of the mid-third century AD.
