| Obverse description | Confronted busts of Emperor Gordian III and the god Sarapis facing one another across the field: Gordian III depicted laureate, draped and cuirassed, facing right as seen from the rear, with the obverse legend ΑΥΤ Μ ΑΝΤ ΓΟΡΔΙΑΝΟϹ ΑΥΓ arranged around the periphery; Sarapis shown draped and facing left, a cornucopia rising behind his left shoulder. The juxtaposition of imperial and divine effigies is characteristic of the syncretic religious iconography prevalent in Moesian civic coinage of the Severan and Gordian periods. |

| Reverse description | Ares, the god of war, stands facing left in the reverse field, clad in military attire and rendered in a statuesque, frontal pose. He rests his right hand upon a large round shield set on the ground beside him, while his left hand holds an upright spear. The reverse legend ΟΔΗϹϹΕΙΤΩΝ, with the mark Ε, is distributed around the field, identifying the issuing city of Odessos. The style is consistent with provincial bronze coinage struck under Gordian III at Odessos in Moesia Inferior. |
