Reverse description Tyche of the city of Edessa is depicted seated left upon a rocky outcrop, her figure rendered in the traditional civic-goddess convention of eastern provincial bronzes. She holds ears of corn in her extended hand, symbolizing the city's fertility and prosperity. In the exergue below, a river god swims to the right, personifying the local river Daisan (Skirtos) that flowed through Edessa. The reverse legend identifies the issuing city. The composition reflects the standard iconographic formula employed for Edessan civic bronzes of the Severan period.
