| Beschrijving keerzijde | The Emperor, depicted in military attire, rides in a quadriga proceeding to the right, holding a branch in one hand and a sceptre in the other, a composition symbolizing imperial triumph. The four horses are rendered in dynamic motion, with the spoke-wheeled chariot clearly visible beneath. The date regnal legend appears in the field. The design reflects the Hellenistic artistic tradition maintained at the Alexandrian mint. |

Domitian's twelfth regnal year in Egypt — rendered as LIΒ in the Alexandrian dating system — places this issue squarely in the period following the Domitianic Terror, when senatorial executions had peaked and the emperor's relationship with Rome's elite was irrecoverable. The Alexandrian mint operated under distinctly provincial logic, answering to the prefect of Egypt rather than the Roman senate, which insulated its output from the political turbulence playing out in the capital. Domitian was assassinated the following year, in September 93.
