Thyatira, a Lydian city better known to historians as one of the Seven Churches addressed in the Book of Revelation, functioned as a significant commercial hub along the road between Pergamum and Sardis. Its bronze civic coinage under Commodus was issued during the magistracy of Barbarus — the ΕΠΙ ϹΤΡΑ ΒΑΡΒΑΡ formula identifying him as the presiding strategus responsible for authorizing the issue. The Conventus of Pergamum organized such local bronze production not as imperial mandate but as a municipal privilege, subject to the governor's oversight.
