Claudius II ruled for just under two years before dying of plague in 270 AD, but his Alexandrian mint was prolific throughout. The "L Α" regnal year notation marks this as a first-year issue from the Egyptian calendar, which began in late summer — meaning production likely commenced within months of Claudius taking power after Gallienus was assassinated by his own officers outside Milan.
