| Obverse description | Draped bust of Messalina facing right, her hair elaborately styled in the Julio-Claudian fashion. Two ears of corn are depicted before the bust, alluding to her divine associations. A Greek legend encircles the portrait in the field, identifying her as Augusta and New Hera. The effigy is rendered in the provincial style characteristic of Bithynian civic coinage of the Claudian period. |
