Magnesia ad Maeandrum occupied a politically sensitive position in the Maeander valley, and civic bronze issues under Caracalla frequently name the sitting grammateus — the chief magistrate responsible for the issue — as a means of distributing both credit and financial liability for the minting costs. The abbreviation ΕΠΙ ΓΡΑΜ followed by the magistrate's name is the standard epigraphic formula for this accountability, and ΔΗΜΟΝΕΙΚΟΥ identifies the individual who underwrote this particular striking.
