The scene alludes to the famous sanctuary of Apollo Smintheus at Alexandria Troas, celebrated in the Iliad. The reverse legend in the exergual field and around the design identifies the issuing Augustan colony. The figures are rendered in the provincial style typical of Troas civic coinage. |
