Year 14 of Trajan's reign corresponds to the period immediately following the First Dacian War and during the buildup to the Second, when Alexandrian civic bronzes were being struck in high volume to service the economic demands of a province feeding both the Roman grain supply and military logistics. The Alexandrian regnal dating system — unusual among provincial mints — tied each issue explicitly to the emperor's Egyptian regnal year rather than a consular or tribunician count, making precise dating of these bronzes more reliable than most provincial series.
