Provincia Dacia was a unique Roman provincial construct — an artificial administrative grouping created specifically to issue coinage, not an organic geographic entity. Its bronze series used a local era dating from 246 AD, making AN V correspond to 250–251, the final years of Trajan Decius's reign before he died at the Battle of Abritus — the first Roman emperor killed in battle by a foreign enemy. The province's coinage ceased almost immediately after, leaving AN V among the latest and least frequently encountered dates in the series.
