| Obverse description | Laureate head of the emperor Trajan facing right, with drapery visible on the left shoulder, rendered in the provincial Greek style typical of Syrian civic coinage. The portrait displays the characteristic strong features of Trajan's mature effigy, with a wreath of laurel leaves encircling the head. A Greek imperial legend surrounds the portrait, reading partially ΑΥΤΟΚΡ ΝΕΡ ΤΡΑΙΑΝΟϹ ΑΡΙϹΤ ΚΑΙϹ ϹΕΒ ΓΕΡ ΔΑΚ, abbreviating his full titulature as Autocrator, Nerva, Trajan, Aristos, Caesar, Sebastos, Germanicus, Dacicus. The flan is irregular in shape, as is typical of provincially struck bronzes of this period. |
