Aegeae, a coastal city in Cilicia, held the right to strike bronze provincials under Roman imperial authority — a privilege tied to its status as a regional cult center for Asclepius, whose sanctuary drew visitors from across the eastern Mediterranean. The issue dates to a moment when Severus Alexander was consolidating eastern policy ahead of the Sassanid war that would ultimately define, and destabilize, his reign. SNG Levante 1769 is among the less frequently traded Aegeae references, with the Levante collection itself remaining the primary systematic record for Cilician civic bronzes of this period.
