| Beschrijving keerzijde | Demeter, the goddess of the harvest, is depicted seated in a car (biga) drawn by two winged serpents, moving to the right. The goddess holds two lit torches, one in each hand, aloft as she rides, evoking her mythological search for Persephone. The wheeled vehicle is rendered in profile, and the sinuous bodies of the serpents fill the lower field. The reverse legend appears in the exergue and along the lower border in Greek script, identifying the issuing city. |
