Creteia-Flaviopolis was a minor Bithynian city whose very name reflects its dual origin — a Hellenistic settlement merged with a Flavian-era refoundation, likely under Vespasian or one of his sons. Provincial bronzes of Septimius Severus from this mint are scarce relative to the larger Bithynian centers like Nicomedia or Nicaea, a function of the city's limited civic resources rather than any interruption in imperial favor. The reign span 193–211 encompasses Severus's entire rule, and no finer die attribution for this type has been established in the standard corpora.
