| Obverse description | Laureate, draped and cuirassed bust of Emperor Septimius Severus facing right, depicted from the rear, with the paludamentum visible over the cuirass. The imperial effigy is rendered in typical provincial style, with the laureate wreath clearly visible encircling the head. The Latin legend runs around the periphery of the flan. The coin shows the characteristic broad, slightly irregular flan typical of Pontic provincial bronze coinage of this period. |

| Reverse description | Enthroned archaistic figure of Dionysus seated facing, rendered in a deliberately archaic style befitting the ancient cult image venerated at Sinope. The deity wears a flat polos cap adorned with rows of pearls and displays a long beard in archaistic fashion; he holds a cantharus in his extended right hand and a thyrsus in his left. On the base of the throne an altar is depicted, flanked on either side by two small genii, while two additional attendant figures stand on either side at the back of the throne. The reverse legend records the colonial title of Sinope and the local era date. |
