The emperor's military attire is rendered with fine detail, showing the folds of the paludamentum over the cuirass. A Greek legend encircles the effigy, reading Μ ΙΟΥΛΙΟϹ ΦΙΛΙΠΠΟϹ ΑΥΓ, identifying the emperor as Marcus Julius Philippus Augustus.
