| Beschrijving keerzijde | Antinous, assimilated to the local river god Billaios, depicted in the guise of a reclining river deity facing left. He holds a bunch of grapes in his outstretched right hand, while his left arm rests upon an overturned vase or urn from which water flows, the standard attribute of river personifications. The composition reflects the local cult of Antinous established at Tium following his deification. The legend ΤΙΑΝΩΝ in the field and ΒΙΛΛΑΙΟϹ below the figure identify the issuing city and the river deity. |
