Reverse description Standing figure of a syncretistic deity combining attributes of Sarapis and Dionysus, depicted facing left in full figure. The god wears the kalathos (modius) atop his head, a distinctive attribute of Sarapis, while his outstretched hand holds either ears of grain or a bunch of grapes, alluding to his Dionysiac identity, and his other hand grasps a tall sceptre. The composition reflects the religious syncretism prevalent in Bithynian provincial coinage of the Severan and post-Severan periods. The reverse legend, distributed around the field, proclaims Nicomedia's prestigious status as a twice-neocorate city.
