Obverse description Radiate, draped and cuirassed bust of Emperor Gordian III facing right, viewed from the front, with the paludamentum fastened at the shoulder and the cuirass rendered in diagonal lines. The imperial effigy is depicted in the provincial manner typical of Bithynian civic coinage of the mid-3rd century AD. The surrounding Greek legend reads Μ ΑΝΤ ΓΟΡΔΙΑΝΟϹ ΑΥ, identifying the emperor as Marcus Antonius Gordianus Augustus. The legend is disposed around the bust within a dotted border.
